You can read it online or download it.Īlthough it’s cliche, I adhere to the policy of taking nothing but photos and leaving nothing but footprints.

#URBAN EXPLORER FILM DOWNLOAD HOW TO#

It’s an entry level book for urban explorers that covers legalities, how to find locations, how to track down owners, dealing with confrontations, includes beginner locations, and much more. I wrote an E-book titled “It’s Too Clean To Be Abandoned”. The legalities of this hobby are that you should always seek permission before going onto someone’s property. This website features a variety of content ranging from rural farm houses to exquisite multi-million dollar estates to hospitals to correctional facilities. I no longer operate the website but I do maintain this blog. The result was the first Canadian website for urban exploring and it was named “Mike’s Ontario Ghost Towns”. I visited mills, cemeteries, railway towns and everything in between. I traveled many kilometers and took many photos using a 35 mm film camera. That desire was to visit old ghost towns across Ontario and create a website where people could learn about these forgotten places. Many years ago, before social media made everybody an urban explorer, I had a desire. I’ve been featured in my local newspaper, CBC News, Northern Life, Reader’s Digest ( Our Canada Magazine) and The Daily Mail. I’ve been exploring for 23 years now (since 1999). (See link below for that story- this book only came out in the english translation in 2015, although our expedition was in 2011.) I can only say thank you to Erling for helping me see the value of immersive, expedition-style adventure and for giving me a wonderful example of what it means to be a good leader and a well-balanced explorer. My name is Mike, a photographer and urban explorer from the Hamilton, Ontario area. Erling uses this as a basis for the sort of thoughtful and thought-provoking storytelling that he has previously written in his narratives of polar exploration, and I love this because I think we SHOULD treat urban environments the way we generally treat "natural" environments: as landscapes to be explored, appreciated, inspired by, and loved.Ī few years later, I would use Erling's inspiration for similar, if shorter, expedition entirely across Paris underground, leading a large group (myself and five other people) through catacombs, quarries, utility tunnels, and historic sewers for three days and two nights. Because of the nature of New York's underground and the size of the city, we skipped around during our week as troglodytes, coming above-ground repeatedly between stints through sewers, train tunnels, and a birthday party with mole people. His example as an explorer, and the chance to get to know him, have been great privileges in my life. (He and his expedition partner were the first to make it to the north pole unsupported- carrying and pulling all their supplies the whole way- and Erling then went solo to the south pole, becoming the first person to make it there on an unsupported trip as well.Ī few years ago, Erling came to me with the idea of spending a week in the underground of New York City, trying to make it across as much of the city as possible entirely underground.

And it is full of my photos as well!Įrling Kagge has spent much of his life on expedition-style adventures such as multi-month unsupported trips to both the north and south poles. This is a wonderful book by a man who is a wonderful adventurer, thinker, and writer.
